UCSC Grad Program Gallery Show, 2001

Much of our ability to observe nature is dependent upon the intricate and beautiful drawings prepared by professional artists for field guides, magazines, and literature. Without their acute powers of observation and attention to detail, most of us wouldn't even know what to look for when trying identify one species from another. On May 19, from 10 a.m.- noon you can meet some of these artists, see their work, and watch a how-to demonstration. The Santa Cruz City Museum will be hosting artists enrolled in the UC Santa Cruz graduate program in scientific illustration, as part of this year's Illustrating Nature exhibit. The exhibit runs from May 5-June 10 and features more than 60 works, depicting everything from microbes to mammals in watercolor, acrylic, pen and ink, colored pencil, graphite, and scratchboard. The museum is located at 1305 East Cliff Drive in Santa Cruz and is open Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information, call (831)420-6115.
