Habitat Restoration: Bald Hill Broom Bust
Saturday, February 11, 2012
9:00 AM
to
12:00 PM
Volunteers will focus on containing the spread of French and Scotch broom monocultures and also eradicate pioneer patches. Removing broom gives native plants and trees a better opportunity to thrive, improves habitat for animals, reduces the fire fuel load and improves views. Ranger chili served at noon.
Meet at 9:00 at the intersection of Yolanda Trail and Worn Springs Fire Road. There are several moderately strenuous hikes or rides one could take to the site. A guided hiking group will leave Deer Park at 8:30 and a bike group will meet at San Anselmo Coffee Roasters at 8:00.
Driving directions to Deer Park: From downtown Fairfax, turn onto Bolinas Rd. Go ½ mile and turn left onto Porteous, following it all the way to the end into the Deer Park parking lot.
Trail crew events are suitable for ages 13 and older. Age 8 or up can volunteer at habitat restoration events. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a permission form signed by a
parent or guardian. Volunteers under the age of 16 must have a parent present at the event.
Please wear close-toed shoes and long pants, dress for variable weather and bring a reusable water bottle. We provide breakfast snacks, water, tools and inspiration.
To pre-register, to request a youth permission form or for any other questions please leave your information here or email volunteerprogram@marinwater.org. Our website provides more
information and maps. Visit marinwater.org, look under “watershed” and then under “volunteer opportunities”. Thank you for your interest in volunteering on the Mt Tamalpais Watershed.
