Coal Creek Open Space Preserve
A sweet winter waterfall, spring wildflowers, and views stretching east from the Peninsula to Mount Diablo make this great spot for a quick afternoon stroll.

Half an hour from the metropolis of the South Bay, Coal Creek Open Space Preserve has five miles of dog-friendly trails that connect to Skyline Boulevard, Alpine Road, and the neighboring Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve. Though most hikes in the park can be completed in two hours or less, they provide a surprising diversity of habitats, including shady woodlands and wildflower-decorated grasslands.
