In January 2011 Bay Nature marked ten years of connecting Bay Area people to local nature. The first issue of Bay Nature magazine appeared in January 2001, and we've been going strong ever since, exploring different natural places in the San Francisco Bay Area each quarter.

This anniversary is a milestone worth celebrating, and we hope you'll join us as we recognize the amazing community of people that has come together around Bay Nature. Here's what we have planned:

I. Anniversary Gala – January 22, 2011

SOLD OUT! To celebrate the diversity of our local landscapes and the creativity of our community, we sponsored a 10th Anniversary Gala – a lively and engaging evening of local food, wine, beer, writers, artists, and musicians on January 22, 2011 at the Lakeside Theater near Lake Merritt in Oakland. 

II. Special Anniversary Issue (January–March 2011)

We published a special 10th Anniversary Issue of Bay Nature, featuring some of the region's best writers and poets reflecting on their personal connections to local nature. You'll read original works from Rebecca Solnit, Robert Hass, Brenda Hillman, Jon Carroll, Linda Watanabe McFerrin, Greg Sarris, and Wendy Tokuda. 

III. Looking Ahead: The 10th Anniversary Fund

Our goal for our second decade: Complete Bay Nature's development into the premier gateway to the natural world of the Bay Area, in print, online, in the field, and on the air. And we've established the Bay Nature 10th Anniversary Fund to provide the philanthropic support to get us there. Please consider making a donation to the Fund to help this extraordinary environmental media organization promote its message of exploration and stewardship of local nature to an ever-growing audience, in print, online, in the field, and on the air.
